Acid Fume Treatment

Industrial processes that generate acidic fumes and inorganic gases face increasingly strict environmental and health regulations. Compounds such as HCl, HF, H₂SO₄ mist, SO₂, and NOx contribute to air pollution, corrosion, and toxic exposure.

Ecosystems Europe delivers comprehensive acid fume treatment solutions that combine wet scrubbing, aerosol demisting, and activated carbon polishing — engineered to achieve up to 99.9% removal efficiency and full compliance with EU IED and BAT-AEL standards.

Why it matters

Acid fumes are among the most corrosive and hazardous emissions in industry. Without effective treatment, they lead to:

Corrosion of ducts, fans, and stacks
Toxic exposure for operators and nearby communities
Visible stack plumes due to acid mist carryover
Environmental fines and costly downtime

With tightening emission thresholds across Europe and globally, effective acid gas treatment systems are no longer optional — they are essential for safe, sustainable operation.

Sulfuric Acid Production

Our integrated treatment approach

Ecosystems designs modular, high-efficiency treatment systems that combine three core technologies:

1. Wet scrubbing — primary acid gas removal

Our wet scrubbers neutralize and absorb acid gases such as HCl, HF, SO₂, and NO₂ using optimized water or alkaline solutions. Designed for minimal reagent use, they enable chemical recovery and reduced effluent generation.

Up to 99.9% acid gas removal
Low pressure drop (10–25 mbar)
Automated pH and conductivity control
Available as packed-bed, venturi, or tray scrubbers

2. Aerosol demisting — fine mist and sub-micron capture

Acid scrubbing often generates fine acid mists and aerosols (<1 µm). These cannot be captured by traditional separators.
Our systems integrate Elessent® Brink® Fiber Bed Mist Eliminators, providing:

99.95% sub-micron mist removal
Long-life operation with MECS® drainage layer
Reduced stack opacity and corrosion
Retrofit-ready for existing scrubbers

This stage ensures that acid mist, SO₃, H₂SO₄, and condensable vapors are effectively removed, keeping downstream air clean and visible emissions near zero.

3. Activated carbon filtration — final polishing

For trace contaminants, activated carbon beds provide final polishing and odor control.
They adsorb residual chlorinated compounds, VOCs, and sulfur species, guaranteeing compliance with the lowest emission limits.

High surface area for maximum adsorption
Optional impregnated carbon for specific pollutants
Regenerable and low-maintenance

Regulations and safety

Ecosystems systems are designed in line with:

Industrial Emissions Directive (IED) — 2010/75/EU
NEC Directive — 2016/2284/EU
BAT-AEL (Best Available Techniques – Associated Emission Levels)

Typical Emission Benchmarks (Daily Average):
