Industrial Odor Control

Industrial and waste processes frequently emit odorous vapors, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) — all of which create environmental, regulatory, and community challenges.

Ecosystems designs and delivers advanced odor control systems that combine wet scrubbing, aerosol demisting, and activated carbon filtration to achieve up to 99.9% odor removal efficiency. Our systems target both vapor-phase and aerosol-bound odor compounds, ensuring a measurable reduction in odor concentration and full compliance with the most stringent EU IED and BAT-AEL standards.

Why odor control matters

Odor emissions are not just a nuisance — they represent a mix of organic and inorganic compounds that can be toxic, corrosive, and environmentally harmful. Typical sources include wastewater treatment, biogas upgrading, chemical manufacturing, polymer processing, and rendering operations.

Without proper control, these emissions can:

Damage nearby ecosystems and air quality
Create odor complaints and community relations issues
Accelerate corrosion in ducts, fans, and stack systems
Reduce worker comfort and safety

Ecosystems’ odor control systems address these challenges by removing both the aerosols that carry odor molecules and the volatile compounds themselves, ensuring truly clean, odor-free exhaust.

Oil & Gas Refining

Our integrated odor control technologies

Together, these technologies form a multi-stage odor control solution that guarantees stable performance, low operating costs, and zero visible emissions:

1. Wet scrubbing — gas absorption and neutralization

Wet scrubbers act as the first defense against odorous gases. Using optimized gas–liquid contact, they absorb and neutralize acidic and alkaline compounds, including H₂S, NH₃, and amines.

Packed-bed and venturi scrubbers for precise mass transfer
Water-based or chemical-neutralizing solutions tailored to each gas composition
Low ΔP (10–25 mbar) and automatic pH control for continuous operation
Removes soluble odors, acid gases, and reactive organics effectively

2. Aerosol demisting — odor-carrying aerosol elimination

Odorous compounds frequently attach to sub-micron droplets and organic aerosols, which pass through standard scrubbers.
By integrating Elessent® Brink® Fiber Bed Mist Eliminators, Ecosystems eliminates these fine particles at the source:

Up to 99.95% sub-micron aerosol removal efficiency
Captures oil, amine, and sulfur aerosols that cause odors
Prevents visible plumes and reduces downstream corrosion
Long operating life with MECS® drainage layer for self-cleaning drainage
This step ensures odor removal at the physical level — not just chemical neutralization — for lasting air quality improvement.

3. Activated carbon filtration — final polishing and odor adsorption

Activated carbon filters provide the final odor polishing step, adsorbing trace VOCs, sulfur compounds, and amines that remain after scrubbing and demisting.

High surface area (up to 1000 m²/g) for exceptional adsorption capacity
Impregnated carbons available for enhanced H₂S or amine removal
Impregnated carbons available for enhanced H₂S or amine removal
Ensures complete odor elimination, even under variable load conditions

NEC Directive — 2016/2284/EU
IED Revision (2024–2025) introducing stricter odor and VOC standards
BREF BAT-AEL benchmarks for waste, biogas, and chemical sectors
